Through strategic planting of vegetation horizontal eddies can be prevented in a city. The effect of this is that eddies of precipitated particulate matter will be prevented, as will hindrance from wind in general. The application of vertical green alongside high-rises can reduce wind speed and consequently the disturbance of precipitated particulate matter.

Through joined hedges, tree lined avenues, etc., polluted air is thrust upward and mixed with what is in general cleaner air from higher air layers. This creates a local lowering of the concentration of pollution in the air. CROW, 2011
