Bürgerkraftwerke, Germany

Website ‘Bürgerkraftwerke’

“Bürgerkraftwerke” are a new form of associations in Germany, among other places, where the citizens organise and invest together in the realisation of, for example, wind farms, solar energy installations or other renewable forms of energy.

A group of initiative-takers begins and looks for interested parties who want to invest; in this way they can make housing projects, neighbourhoods, cities or regions more sustainable.

It is a way to accelerate sustainability. Usually shares starting at 500 up to a few thousand euros are sold. Investments are made regionally, for example in regional solar energy, but investments in offshore wind farms are also possible.
